IT'S TIME FOR A NEW LATITUDE
We offer 3 and 5-day all-inclusive trips from
Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge, Brooks Range, Alaska
Three-day trip- Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge

Day 1- Flight from Fairbanks to Iniakuk Lake Lodge.

Your ski plane touches down in the soft snow of Iniakuk Lake where you will be greeted by our friendly staff and taken up to the main lodge for lunch. After lunch you will be introduced to the athletes in the dog yard. There is much howling and barking as your team is hitched up because these dogs love the trail and the chance to get out and run is not something they undertake quietly.

Chances are you’ve never been on a dog sled before so we’ll teach you the commands, how to steer, how to stop, and the importance of hanging on. We often hitch up two sleds to one team for your first trip so you get a feel for the trail, but an experienced musher is in control and there to talk you through the process.

Day 2 and 3- Around the main lodge we have miles of groomed trails that allow you to take in the wilderness on dog sled, snowshoe, or cross-country ski. On a three-day tour you will stay within 10 miles of the lodge, taking day trips south across the lake or north along the river through unending forests of black spruce with the Brooks Range as an impressive backdrop of peaks.

When you are not off mushing there is always time for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, another great way to get out and see the country. In the evening, the guest lounge is the best place to relax by the woodstove and recount the activities of the day. With its large windows and comfortable couches it is also a great place to watch for Northern Lights as the night approaches. The Brooks Range offers one of the most active viewing spots for the Aurora Borealis in the world.

Day 4- Return flight to Fairbanks. The ski plane will pick you up shortly after breakfast for the flight back to Fairbanks.

Three-night, all-inclusive stay includes round-trip airfare from Fairbanks, 3 nights at Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge, dog mushing, snowshoeing, skiing and Northern Lights viewing. All meals, lodging, cold weather gear and equipment included.

Five-day trip- Iniakuk Lodge to the Nahtuk Cabin in Gates of the Arctic National Park and return

A 5-day trip is the ultimate dog sledding adventure, but don’t think you will have to sacrifice on comfort. This is a custom tour, specifically adjusted to your fitness level and needs.

Day 1- Flight from Fairbanks to Iniakuk Lake Lodge.
We will spend the first day getting you oriented to your new surroundings, teach you how to mush a dog team and making sure you are warm and comfortable in your winter gear.

Day 2- We hit the trail after breakfast and head north into the Brooks Range and Gates of the Arctic National Park. Our ultimate destination is the Nahtuk Cabin, warm accommodations on private property inside Gates of the Arctic National Park. The cabin is 30 miles away and we’ll do about half the distance in the first day and spend the night in wood-stove heated tents called Arctic Ovens.

Day 3- Back on the trail after a hot breakfast we mush down onto the Wild and Scenic Alatna River. Its broad, sweeping turns make a great trail and the surrounding Brooks Range is absolutely amazing. We will reach the Nahtuk Cabin in early afternoon so you can either relax on the couch by the fire or take off and stretch your legs by ski or snowshoe in the surrounding valleys. In the evening, as you enjoy a glass of wine under the warm glow of propane lights, you may find it hard to believe you are now 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

Day 4- You will make the return trip to Iniakuk Lake as an experienced musher. The city is far, far away and you may find yourself thinking you could live this life in the mountains. We overnight in Arctic Oven tents once again, as the Northern Lights dance overhead.

Day 5- This is the last day on the trail and we’ll reach Iniakuk Lake Lodge in the early afternoon. We will heat up the sauna so you can relax any sore muscles that 60 miles of trail riding may have created, and as always, great food and cozy accommodations will top off the night.

Day 6- Return flight to Fairbanks. The ski plane will pick you up shortly after breakfast for the flight back to Fairbanks.

Five-night, all-inclusive stay includes round-trip airfare from Fairbanks, 2 nights at Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge, 2 nights in a wall tent camp, 1 night at the Nahtuk Wilderness Cabin in Gates of the Arctic National Park, dog mushing, snowshoeing, skiing and Northern Lights viewing. All meals, lodging, cold weather gear and equipment included.
