A
5-day trip is the ultimate dog sledding adventure, but
don’t think you will have to sacrifice on comfort.
This is a custom tour, specifically adjusted to your fitness
level and needs.
Day
1- Flight from Fairbanks to Iniakuk Lake Lodge.
We will spend the first day getting you oriented to your
new surroundings, teach you how to mush a dog team and
making sure you are warm and comfortable in your winter
gear.
Day
2- We hit the trail after breakfast and head
north into the Brooks Range and Gates of the Arctic National
Park. Our ultimate destination is the Nahtuk Cabin, warm
accommodations on private property inside Gates of the
Arctic National Park. The cabin is 30 miles away and we’ll
do about half the distance in the first day and spend
the night in wood-stove heated tents called Arctic Ovens.
Day
3- Back on the trail after a hot breakfast we
mush down onto the Wild and Scenic Alatna River. Its broad,
sweeping turns make a great trail and the surrounding
Brooks Range is absolutely amazing. We will reach the
Nahtuk Cabin in early afternoon so you can either relax
on the couch by the fire or take off and stretch your
legs by ski or snowshoe in the surrounding valleys. In
the evening, as you enjoy a glass of wine under the warm
glow of propane lights, you may find it hard to believe
you are now 80 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
Day
4- You will make the return trip to Iniakuk Lake
as an experienced musher. The city is far, far away and
you may find yourself thinking you could
live
this life in the mountains. We overnight in Arctic Oven
tents once again, as the Northern Lights dance overhead.
Day
5- This is the last day on the trail and we’ll
reach Iniakuk Lake Lodge in the early afternoon. We will
heat up the sauna so you can relax any sore muscles that
60 miles of trail riding may have created, and as always,
great food and cozy accommodations will top off the night.
Day
6- Return flight to Fairbanks. The ski plane
will pick you up shortly after breakfast for the flight
back to Fairbanks.
Five-night,
all-inclusive stay includes round-trip airfare from
Fairbanks, 2 nights at Iniakuk Lake Wilderness Lodge,
2 nights in a wall tent camp, 1 night at the Nahtuk Wilderness
Cabin in Gates of the Arctic National Park, dog mushing,
snowshoeing, skiing and Northern Lights viewing. All meals,
lodging, cold weather gear and equipment included.
